Nutrition Month Tips From Our PBA Idols

Every month of July, the Philippines celebrates nutrition month, reminding everyone of the importance and benefits of eating right.


PBA players are no exemption; playing the highest level of basketball in our country, players make sure stay healthy, eat well, and stay properly-nourished for them to be able to showcase their talents well on the hardcourt.


Experience PBA had the chance to talk to your favorite idols, who all have their own different ways of maintaining a good lifestyle. But overall, they all agree with these nutrition tips:


1. Eat your breakfast


"Yun ang pinakaimportanteng meal sa buong araw. A lot of carbohydrates and proteins, pero hindi masyado sa fats," says TNT KaTropa forward Troy Rosario.


"Kailangan namin ang breakfast (especially before) practice," adds Columbian Dyip rookie CJ Perez, who also advises everyone to do the same especially if they go to school or to work daily.


2. Eat a lot of vegetables and fruits


"I eat a lot of vegetables, and lessen my intake of rice," says Alaska Aces guard Simon Enciso.


Five-time PBA Most Valuable Player June Mar Fajardo even spilled to us his favorite vegetable.


"Maraming gulay and fish. Malakas ako sa gulay, lalo na sa okra," says the San Miguel Beermen big man.


3. No junk in your body


"Stay away from those foods (that have) lots of sugar and fat, drink lots of water," encourages Beermen sharpshooter Von Pessumal.


When it comes to energy sources, our idols also reminded to go for the healthier options or alternatives.


"Try to stay away from the red meats. Eat a lot of fish and chicken, make sure it's grilled or baked," suggests TNT veteran Harvey Carey.


4. Get the right amount of sleep and exercise


Eating right is only one part of the puzzle too, as it should be coupled by getting enough sleep and regular exercise, according to our PBA players.


"Health is really important to me and my family. I take my eating and exercise very seriously. Get good rest, eat your vegetables, and get your exercise," says Beermen wing man Matt Ganuelas-Rosser.
